About
'Bolagi and the Will-o-Wogs' is an ongoing project focusing on conceptual design and illustration. It details the race of the
will-o-wogs, whose natural, magical world blends with our own. The Will-o-Wog concept draws from the myth of the "Will-o'-the-Wisp" or "Ignis fatuus",
in which a haunting corpse light lures unwitting mortals to their doom. This myth has been propagated through out the world, and numerous cultures their own names and stories, each with a local flair.
The story was originaly followed Bolagi, a Will-o-Wog who risks his lifelong quest in order to save a group of human refugees. As a wealth of material developed, it became clear
that the world of the Will-o-Wog was rich with opportunity for numerous characters and stories. Initially create for a short illustrated book or childens story, the content could easily be adapted to an animated short, or to fit into an existing world of game, film, or literature.
The concept of the Will-o-Wogs has been developed through sketches, finished renders, and sculpture in order to explore all facets of the creation process.

Developmental Sketches
Early character designs begin with a strong amphibian influence, with a frog-like head and inflated throat. Throughout development,
the face is streamlined and begins taking on a more reptilian appearence. A tough, scaly texture is continuously emphasized throughout each stage.

Action and Emotion
A Study in action and emotion provides a glimpse into movement and anatomy, as well as revealing details about the character and his daily activites. Particular attention
is paid to providing readable expressions on a normally unexpressive reptilian face. The hunched, languid posture maintains an animalistic quality to the movement, while still allowing for
a full range of human-like movement, such as interacting with tools and environments.
